AT&T Calling Card
A credit/charge card issued by AT&T to customers for the purpose of billing AT&T Consumer Services. Back to Top.
AT&T Consumer Services Agreement
This Agreement describes the terms and conditions that apply to AT&T's state-to-state and international consumer services. The Agreement also applies to in-state AT&T long distance and/or local services in the states where AT&T no longer files a tariff. Back to Top.

AT&T Long Distance Service
The name AT&T uses to market its Consumer Services, including Direct Dialed Station State-to-State and International calls to Residential Customers. Back to Top.

Calling Card
A credit/charge card accepted by AT&T for billing of AT&T Consumer Services. A Calling Card may be either an AT&T Calling Card, a Local Telephone Company Calling Card, or a Commercial Credit/Charge Card. Back to Top.
CNMI

Collect Call
A type of call for which the caller asks that the charges for the call be billed to the residential domestic telephone number or international telephone number they are calling. Back to Top.
Commercial Credit/Charge Card
A credit/charge card issued by a commercial lender and accepted by AT&T for the purpose of billing AT&T Consumer Services. Back to Top.
Company
AT&T Corp., Alascom, Inc., and any AT&T Corp. affiliate authorized to provide you with AT&T services. Back to Top.
Customer
The person or legal entity who enrolls in, uses and is responsible for payment of charges for AT&T Consumer Services provided by AT&T Corp., Alascom, Inc. and any AT&T Corp. affiliate authorized to provide AT&T Consumer Services. Back to Top.
Customer-Dialed/Automated Calling Card Call
A call for which the Customer dials the appropriate AT&T access code, follows the system prompts by entering both the called telephone number and the Calling Card number for billing purposes and completes the call without the assistance of a Company operator. Back to Top.
Customer Dialed Direct-Payphone Call
A call made from a public or semi-public payphone where a Customer makes a dialed direct state-to-state or international AT&T call and pays for the call by depositing coins into the payphone. The call is completed without the assistance of a Company operator. Back to Top.
Direct Dialed Station Calls
Directly dialed calls made from your home, billed to your main residential telephone account, and made without the assistance of an operator or an automated call processing system. This type of call is made by dialing 1 plus the 10 digit telephone number. Direct Dialed Station calls exclude, without limitation, the following types of calls: Operator, Calling Card, Busy Line Verification/Emergency Interruption, Directory Assistance, Directory Link, AT&T Wireless Long Distance Service, AT&T BQ Service, AT&T Caller Connect Service, AT&T Easy Reach® Service, AT&T Navy Lodge, AT&T True Ties, any AT&T Business Services, and calls to 500, 700, 800, or 900 services. Dispute Resolution

Exchange
A unit established by the Local Telephone Company to administer communications service in a particular area (usually a city, town, or village and its surrounding areas). The exchange consists of physical equipment in the area that connects calls to the AT&T communications network. Back to Top.
Exchange Area
The geographic territory served by an exchange. Back to Top.
Incomplete Call Attempt
A call that is placed, but not completed, either because there is no answer (called party is not home or doesn't answer) or there is a busy signal (caused by network conditions or the called telephone is off the hook). Back to Top.
Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier
Incumbent local exchange carrier that is a subsidiary of AT&T Inc. and is doing business in one of the following states: Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin. Back to Top.
In-State
Calls and related charges associated with calls placed by a calling party between originating and terminating telephones within the same state. Back to Top.
IntraLATA Toll
Calls and related charges placed by a calling party between originating and terminating telephones within the same state and LATA. Such calls and charges may also be referred to as Local Toll or Regional Toll. Back to Top.
International
Calls and related charges to/from international countries or areas to/from the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. Back to Top.
Local Access and Transport Area (LATA)
LATAs are regional calling areas. Calls between LATAs are interLATA calls and calls within LATAs are intraLATA calls. IntraLATA and interLATA calls are considered Long Distance Calls. Back to Top.
Local Call
A call made in a Customer's immediate geographic area that do not carry any additional toll charges. A Customer's local call service area could extend to his/her entire neighborhood, city or county, depending on where he/she lives. Back to Top.
Local Telephone Company
The Company a Customer selects to establish and provide service for Local Calls for their telephone account. Back to Top.
Local Telephone Company Calling Card
A credit/charge card issued by a Local Telephone Company that is accepted by AT&T for the purpose of billing AT&T Consumer Services. Back to Top.
Local Toll Carrier
The company a Customer may select to provide calling services for calls outside of his/her local calling area and for which there would be a toll charge, but which are not considered long distance calls. Back to Top.
Main Residential Telephone Account
The Customer's home telephone account to which AT&T Consumer Service charges are billed. Back to Top.
Minimum Monthly Usage Charge
A charge to an account that does not meet a specified minimum total amount for a particular service. The Minimum Monthly Usage Charge will be charged only when the actual charges for the account are less than the Minimum Monthly Usage Charge during the month in question. Back to Top.
Monthly Recurring Charge
A charge that may be associated with a particular service that requires that an amount be charged each month to an account for the service. Back to Top.
Operator Assisted Call
A call for which the calling party must use, or chooses to use, the assistance of a Company operator or an AT&T automated call processing system to complete the call. Back to Top.
Operator-Dialed Calling Card Call
A call for which the Customer requires the assistance of a Company operator and provides both the called telephone number and the Calling Card number for billing purposes to complete the call. Back to Top.
Person-to-Person Call
A call for which the calling party informs the Company operator that the call is to be completed only to a particular person, mobile station, department, extension, or office to be reached. Back to Top.
Primary IntraLATA Toll Carrier
A Company that a Customer subscribes to as their primary carrier for long distance in-state intraLATA calling services. Such carrier may also be referred to as Primary Local Toll Carrier or Primary Regional Toll Carrier. Back to Top.
Primary Long Distance Carrier
A Company that a Customer subscribes to as their primary interexchange carrier for long distance state-to-state and in-state interLATA calling services. Back to Top.
Prepaid Card
A debit-type card that a Customer can purchase in various amounts that enables the Customer to prepay for AT&T Consumer Services calls. Back to Top.
Public/Semi-Public Telephone
A coin-operated or coinless telephone that generally is available for public use in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These telephones can be owned by a Local Telephone Company, a Long Distance Carrier, and/or private companies or individuals. Calls from Public/Semi-Public coinless telephones must use an alternate billing method such as calling card, prepaid card, third number billed or collect. Back to Top.
Rate Center
A specified geographical location used to determine mileage measurements as they relate to the prices and charges for certain types of AT&T Consumer Services calls. Back to Top.
Rate Center Area
The geographic area that includes the territories assigned to a rate center. Back to Top.
Residential Customer
A Customer who subscribes to AT&T Consumer Services for his/her home telephone account. Residential Customers are classified as a residential customer by their Local Telephone Company. Back to Top.
State-to-State
Calls and their related charges from one state to a different state. This includes calls between the 50 states; from United States Mainland or Hawaii to Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam or CNMI. It includes calls between Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands; from Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands to the United States Mainland, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam or CNMI; from American Samoa, Guam or CNMI to the United States Mainland, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands where billing for the applicable classification of call is available. Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS)
An arrangement which permits persons with hearing and/or speech disabilities who use a Text Telephone (TT) or its equivalent, to communicate with hearing persons who use an ordinary telephone. A trained Company representative provides translation assistance between voice and text and vice versa. Back to Top.
Text Telephone (TT)
A machine that employs graphic communication in transmitting coded signals through a communication system. Back to Top.
Third Number Billing
An optional billing procedure that allows charges for an AT&T Consumer Services call to be billed to a telephone number other than the calling number or the called number. Back to Top.
United States
The 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands. Back to Top.
United States Mainland
The 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia. Back to Top.
